Don’t go rushing to buy furniture just yet
Congratulations, you bought a house! It’s so tempting to start making your Pinterest dreams come true as soon as you move into your new place. But before you max out your credit card at Target, I’d highly recommend doing the following unglamorous but essential tasks.
1. Change/rekey the locks
Think of all the people in addition to the seller who had access to your home over the years. Babysitters, cleaning services, handymen, a neighbor. Even if you’re purchasing new construction, I recommend changing or rekeying your locks so you can have peace of mind that you are safe and secure.
2. Install a security system
Regardless of how safe your neighborhood is, I believe everyone should invest in a security system to protect themselves and their pricey investment. You don’t have to purchase the most expensive, state-of-the-art system. Plus, most insurance companies provide a discount if you provide your alarm certificate.
3. Hang curtains or get temporary blinds
