The FBI released a chilling recorded phone call that may be the only clue in this 1974 disappearance
Introduction
In June of 1974, Margaret Ellen (“Maggie”) Fox had big plans. At only 14 years old, she had secured her first babysitting job.
Maggie’s potential client, a man named “John Marshall,” had found her through a newspaper ad she had placed promoting her services. John supposedly needed a babysitter for his young son.
After postponing several times, John and Maggie agreed to meet for an interview in the town of Mount Holly, New Jersey, on June 24. John told her he would be waiting in a red Volkswagen.
Maggie set out bright and early on June 24 to catch the bus to Mount Holly. Maggie’s younger sister saw her board the bus from Burlington, New Jersey, at 8:40 am. Several witnesses claimed to have seen Maggie near Mill and Main Streets after arriving in Mount Holly.
Maggie was never heard from again.
The Investigation
Shortly after Maggie’s family reported her missing, authorities began recording the Fox family’s incoming and outgoing phone calls. Maggie’s mother soon received a ransom call from a man demanding $10,000.
