When You’re Born You Look Like Your Parents. When You Die You Look Like Your Choices.

What happened when I spent a week making different choices

A leader whom I greatly admire, once said, “When you’re born, you look like your parents. When you die, you look like your choices.”

I love this observation for so many reasons. First off, I wholeheartedly subscribe to the belief that, while we can’t control what happens to us, we alone are empowered in how we react to life’s setbacks.

Also, as someone who diligently attempts to make good choices but who sometimes wonders, “Does any of this actually matter?” it’s reassuring to be reminded that our acts of self-improvement really do add up.

Most significantly, to me, this simple statement summed up the essence of life itself — a never-ending series of choices.

With that in mind, I challenged myself to spend one week being extra conscious of the choices I made.
