Don’t Forget These 9 Benefits When You’re Tempted to Quit

Some days when I feel unappreciated and underpaid, I’m tempted to give my two weeks’ notice and start applying for higher-paying jobs while living off my emergency fund.

On those days, I have to check myself and remember that salary is just one of many benefits of my job. No doubt your salary is hugely important. But consider the following monetary and non-monetary perks that you may be underestimating:

1. 401K

You've heard this a million times. If you’re not taking advantage of your company’s 401K plan, then you’re missing out on the tremendous benefit of growing your retirement savings tax-deferred. If your company matches your contribution, then there’s absolutely no excuse as you’re essentially saying no to free money.

2. Health Insurance

I never realized how expensive health insurance was until I had to pay for it out-of-pocket when I was in between jobs. I’m fortunate to now have great insurance through my company — I have what feels like the Rolls Royce of insurance coverage and something that I would have paid hundreds of dollars each month on my own rather than the manageable $46 that currently comes out of each paycheck.
